ISLAMABAD / LAHORE (Relief Update – Aug 28, 2025):
At least 15 people lost their lives in Punjab as monsoon-swollen rivers surged across the province, while Sindh braces for incoming floodwaters. With near one million cusecs of water passing through Qadirabad Headworks, authorities fear large-scale inundation in Hafizabad, Chiniot, and southern Punjab districts.
The Pakistan Army and rescue agencies have expanded operations across Gujranwala, Gujrat, Narowal, Hafizabad, and Sialkot — where an entire family of five perished in Sambrial. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued fresh alerts, warning Sindh to evacuate low-lying Indus river areas as floodwaters from Ravi, Chenab, and Sutlej surge downstream.

“We are facing an exceptionally high flood situation. Evacuation from vulnerable areas is critical,” said Punjab PDMA DG Irfan Ali Kathia.
The situation has already paralyzed parts of Sialkot, where the airport was forced to suspend operations after recording 405 mm of rain in one week, the heaviest in decades.
